MISSION STATEMENT

One community learning and leading for our future.

FAYETTEVILLE FACTS

Fayetteville School is one of 17 schools which comprise the Talladega County School System. In 2016-2017, enrollment at Fayetteville School was approximately 700 students in kindergarten through grade twelve. The school population consists of 94% Caucasian and 6% African American and is reflective of the community's racial makeup. The majority of the students come from middle class families which have some college education. Forty-seven percent of the school population is economically disadvantaged as determined by the number of free and reduced lunches served at school. As a result of this data, Fayetteville is a Title I school which receives and utilizes funds for academic improvement.

Fayetteville School is located in the Lay Lake community and serves students residing in the Fayetteville community and the surrounding communities of Marble Valley and Talladega Springs. Located in southwest Talladega County approximately 10 miles from the cities of Sylacauga and Childersburg, many of the residents of Fayetteville work in businesses and industries located in Sylacauga or Childersburg. Parents are employed in various fields including nursing, food services, production/assembly work, law enforcement, and education. The largest business located in the Fayetteville community is Farm Links, a close partner with the school.

Fayetteville School has a rich heritage having been established in 1919 as part of the Talladega County School district. In 2005, the citizens in Fayetteville voted to increase their property tax by an additional 5 mills in order to build a new facility. Auburn University, along with Farm Links, has been instrumental in the design of outdoor classrooms, flower and vegetable gardens, a wetland preservation area, and tree groves. These extraordinary outdoor teaching areas are the perfect compliment to project-based learning and provide students with both innovative and interactive learning opportunities. In 2013, Fayetteville was named a National Green Ribbon School by the US Department of Education.

A variety of extra-curricular activities are offered at Fayetteville including football, volleyball, basketball, cross country, golf, bass fishing, archery, bowling, baseball, softball, and cheerleading. Clubs are also a part of the extra-curricular activities giving students opportunities to participate in student government (SGA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Key Club, Beta Club, Yearbook Staff, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Elementary Leadership Clubs, Elementary Lighthouse Team, and the Middle School/High School Student Ambassador Leadership Program. A primary goal for Fayetteville School is to promote student empowerment within their learning environment through such programs as The Leader in Me, Red Ribbon Week, and individual and group guidance sessions.

The Fayetteville faculty consists of a principal, an assistant principal, twenty-nine classroom teachers, a media specialist, a digital learning specialist, one full time counselor and one part time counselor, two physical education teachers, a nurse, two special education teachers, itinerant speech and gifted teachers, a band director, a career tech teacher, a Title I resource teacher, and a reading specialist. One-hundred percent of the faculty is highly qualified and sixty-five percent hold advanced degrees. There are 3 teachers that hold National Board Certification. The support staff consists of a secretary, a clerical assistant, an in-school suspension aide, an ACCESS aide, two special education assistants, three custodians, five bus drivers, four lunchroom staff members, and a lunchroom manager. The faculty and staff continue to grow professionally by attending workshops, graduate classes, seminars and various professional development activities.

Fayetteville School welcomes challenges and the opportunity to meet these challenges through well-crafted action plans. A priority for the year is to increase parental involvement and by doing so work collaboratively with parents and students to set goals and expectations for increasing academic achievement. With each student having a Chromebook to support their learning, Fayetteville School is always seeking ways to expand network availability for students often limited by the rural proximity of the community. However, teachers are cognizant of this need and work to structure lessons that do not always require internet access. Plus, the media center is open before and after school to serve the needs of students.

Fayetteville School receives lighthouse status
As of February 2016, Fayetteville School will now be recognized as a "Lighthouse School". The Lighthouse School milestone is awarded by Franklin Covey. The milestone is achieved by becoming a Leader in Me school and meeting numerous criteria to reach this achievement. This shows that our school has well-rounded leadership and excellent students! At this time, there are only 15 lighthouse schools in the state of Alabama.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
